Poor Estelle was very ill, and at age 32 could not live much longer. But she had always loved Our Lady, and she invoked her now. Our Lady was pleased, and on February 14 of 1876 she appeared to Estelle. Then she came again-telling Estelle she would be cured on Saturday, giving her a mission to spread her glory, and calling herself “All-merciful.” Estelle was overjoyed. The nursing Sisters caring for Estelle did not pay much attention to her stories of visions, thinking the poor invalid was just not herself. Indeed, Estelle was near death, with both lungs almost destroyed, an enormous tumor in her left side, and her right arm completely paralyzed and swollen to twice its normal size. But on Saturday, just as predicted, Estelle was cured: the huge tumor had disappeared, her right arm was normal, and her lungs were completely sound! The Sisters were astonished. Estelle set up a marble slab in testimony of her cure, as Our Lady had instructed her.Our Lady came again, telling Estelle she had come especially for the conversion of sinners. Then she showed her a white scapular of the Sacred Heart. She said, “I love this devotion,” and she told Estelle to spread it in honor of her. She wanted all her children to wear this scapular. Soon, many Sacred Heart Scapulars were made, and thousands became invested in this scapular at Pellevoisin. Through it, Our Lady has surely converted many souls—souls to love and honor her for all eternity.
